About Scott Marchant

Born and raised in Orlando, FL, Scott Marchant fell in love with the wilds of nature in one of the flattest states in the United States. It's hard to believe, but the highest point in Florida is Britton Hill at a whopping 345 feet above sea level. He left for the West to attend college in Nevada where he discovered real mountains—the Sierra Nevada's.

It is here that he discovered his passion for hiking, getting lost and watching sunsets. He has lived in Boise since 2003, exploring the state on foot with a camera in hand. There was a short stint living in Stanley in 2008 and 2009 when Scott decided to write his first guidebook for the Sawtooth Mountain range. He almost made it through two winters, but temperatures below negative 30°F had the Florida bloke thinking he wasn't cut out for arctic temperatures, so it was back to Boise.

Scott hikes, photographs and researches all the information that ends up in the guidebooks, calendars and other Hiking Idaho products. His goal is to provide other hikers and those passionate about the wilderness with compelling, informational, and accurate guidebooks and products.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all exploring will be to arrive where we started…and know the place for the first time.
